Much interest was taken. Burns Centennary. The Burns Club last night celebrated the centennary of the publication of the first edition of the poet's works by a musical and literary entertainment, with a lecture by Dr Wallis. Suicide. Gjsbokkb, August 17. At the inquest on George Johnston, late a brewer, who committed suicide yesterday, a verdict was returned that he shot himself while in unsound mind. It was a most determined deed, the gun was clasped with his hands and the muzzle placed up to his left eye, the trigger was pulled by bis left toe and his brains were blown cut fhe bedclothes were drawn op over his head evidently to deaden the sound. Another SuicideHojuttka, August 17. John Lange, jeweller, committed suicide by shooting himself in an outhouse at 8 o'clock this morning.
