The Surveyor’s report was read as follows • 1. Waterton road.—Ford’s Creek! Tenders were called for making ford in lieu of bridge, but on account of a petition being received asking the Board to reconsider the matter, the Chairman directed that consideration should be left over till this meeting. 2. Chatmoss road.—The contractor for making the side drain will complete his contract in about a week’s time. 3. McLennan road.—Side drain : We expect this work is completed ere this. At last inspection, a few days ago, the work was proceeding satisfactorily, and but a lew chains to do to complete the contract. 4. Boundary road.—The contract for forming sides of this road has been let to Mr fiayman at 5s per chain. We have ordered timber for re-decking bridge on this road beyond Mr Williams’s farm. 5. Longbeaoh road.—A ford has been made in lieu of bridge on this road near Frisby’s. A contract has also been let to clean and deepen the side drain from Chapman's Creek to Heasley’s. 6. New Park road.—Ford has been made in lieu of the two bridges on this road. 7. Osborne’s road.—A contract has been let to make ford on Osborne’s road. The work cannot be properly completed owing to inability to procure shngle. We have, therefore, authorised contractor to make it first passable in the centre of the roadway. 8. Graham’s road.—A contract' has been let to make a ford in place of bridge op this road.
9. Mill road.—We have let the widening of the drainfrom the Beach road, to Houston and Hedges, at 6s 6d per chain. 10. Ford’s road.—We hare inspected the
drains at the side of this road. That on the east side from Anlerson’s farm to the Boundary road is considerably choked .with vegetation, sqch as njgger head, d’O. The lower portion of the drain pn the west side has been cleaned out, but the upper portion (fs considerably choked. We do not think that this is damaging the road to any extent. The metalled portion is very fair for traffic, and we should say the state would hardly warrant the large expenditure of clearing and deepening the side drains. We believe that the drains were made by the Board in order to form the road.
11. The maintenance man has been filling in ruts on the roads. His diary lies on the table.
The report was adopted. The Surveyor waa directed to have some minor repairs executed. BATS, It was resolved that pubFa notici be given of the board’s intention at a meeting to be held on Friday September 10, to strike a rate of three farthings in the £ on the rateable value of properties in Nos. 1,2, 3 and 4 wards and a halfpenny in No. 6 ward, payable in one instalment on September 24 h, 1886.
