POISONED GRAIN.

TO TSB EDITOR. Sib, —Though. I hare no wlah to advert ae myself at yoar expense as an “ expert ’’ 1 bag leave to reply to a letter which appeared In Saturday’s Guardian t signed “ A. KsranUzer.” Three years ago the County Council called for tenders for the supply of 200 bushels empoisoned grain. I secured the contract and, as the article supplied gave such entire satisfaction, I was instructed to prepare another 200 bushels the following - month, at an advanced price. This grain was a great success also. The preparation of poisoned grain the following year was entrused to some one else and, (to quote Mr Kamniteer, who informs us he obtained h’s knowledge from bead quarters), ■ “ was irregular and consequently inaatisfaotory,” and adds-“it could not be otherwise as the mode of preparation was wrong.” All this I steadfastly believe, as it was an acknoivlsdged failure. As my procets is unknown t» Mr Kamni'zer he cannot possibly say whether It be right or wrong —further, not professing to bean “expert" I decline to discussfthe question with him.—ln spits of Mr G. Leadley’s assertions, which have yet to be substantiated, this year’s distribution, so far has not been a waste of ratepayer’s money. On the contrary, public testimony points towards unbounded success, and Mr Ivey’s report upon the poisoned grain (sent him by Mr I. Sargent, who was prompted to do so by the reverse of friendly motives towards me) proves the grain to be “ strongly loapregust d with Btryohnineandoneoftbe best preparations he bas| examined.” Magna est vtritas ei praemlebit pardon mo for borrowing your motto on this (to me) momentous occasion.— yours, etc., 0. J. H. Neatb,
