A QUEER AFFAIR.
A Self-Accused Incendiary.
AroKUND, August 3. The Auckland Dairy Company’s premises at Bemqera vere completely destroyed by fireat 3.30 this morning. They consisted of large wooden cowsheds, grain and milk stores, &c. Stephen Spalding, formerly employed as tub-mmager by the company, surrendered himself to the {o ice as having deliberately caused the fira While the fire was raging Spalding ronaed the company’s employes, and told them he had set fi e to the boi'din,; and pat powder under the building to blow them up. He left the company’s employ some time ago owing to a dispute about discharging • boy, and sines then has threatened the manager’s life, Beside the building • large quantity of milk, Ac, was destroyed. The building was insured 1 for ’ £SOO in Colonial. When taken to the gnard room Spalding repeated the statement that ho had set fire to the building.
