A fire at Archill at 1.30 this morning completely destroyed the shop and fiyeroomed house occupied by Christian Kjor, and a three-roomed cottage occupied by Palbert Grover. Ivpr’s stock and furniture were saved. The insurance is £l5O
in the Union, and £l3O m the New Zealand. It is supposed the fire was caused bj - drying clothing before a fire in Kjer’s house. Charles Henry Humphries, one of the heroes of the disaster caused by the eruption of Tarawera, has been compelled to file his schedule He was a storekeeper at Wairoa, acdon the night of the disaster his whole property was destroyed. The total liabilities are £sll 7s 9d. Gisborne, August 2
The brig Aratapu was successfully floated off the beach yesterday uninjured.
Dunedin, August 2,
Patrick Oavsnigh, Maurice Baff.n, and John Patrick Davis were charged at the Police Court to-day with passing spurious coins at the races on Saturday. They were remanded until Moyday next. Bail in a small su n was allowed.
