A REVOLUTION IN LIGHTING.

The Wellington correspondent of the Titnaru Herald says :—Mr Hooker, the patentee- of the gas-elect rio light, has been exhibiting his now illuminating power In the lobby of the Parliamentary buildings fir the last three nights. The light consists of a mixture of gas and air conducted through an ordinary gas pipe. Mr John Kerr, member for Waimea, has purchased the patentee’s interest in the light, and he informs me that he can manufacture the supply at a cost of one shilling per 1000 feet. -To night a comparative test between the consumption of the ordinary gas and the new light is being made, with the extraordinary result that the gas-bu-ner is passing through nine feet per hour. The light, If anything, Is brighter than the electric It is Mr Kerr’s intention to < ffet his new light to the gas companies establishid in New Zealand at a fixed sum, for the right of supplying each town, and in the event of their failing to come to his terms, be intends contract with individuals for the supply of the l ; ght. This la made from gas uni air, the latter being blown Into the gasometer by means of a bellows. He assures me that be will restrict any gas company purchasing the light to supply a town from charging more than seven uhillinrs per 1000 feet. The success of the new light is assured, and I predict » heavy fall in gas stocks at a very early date.
