A MAORI MOTHER’S DEVOTION.
Rotorua, July 30 Yesterday two todies, those ofa Native , woman and girl, were recovered from tha . volcanic mad at Walroa. Attention wan , first drawn to the spot by the action of a r dog, and on digging the bodies were found. 1 They have been identified as those of % Wirata and Urihi, mother and daughter, , the bodies being pretty well preserved. It . ar pasred the girl had been ill for some , time before the eruption, and when eeoap* . log with her mother got tired, and had to . rest on her way. Though Wahii might r have sa' al herself by lea ving her dsnghte* J f she did not do so, hot stayed with her. t The sequel is eloquently told by the attitude in which the bodies were found, 3 the mother sitting clasping the girl in hoc 5 arms for the girl held doss , to her breast.
