ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
Messrs Matson, Cox and Co. report I upon the live stock market for the week I ending July 27th, as follows On Tues- J day at the Ashburton yards we held oar J usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle and I pigs. The entry for the day was not a 1 very large one, but the attendance of 1 bnyors was quite up to the average. In | fat sheep there was more than sufficient J for local requirements, and the quality J not being good enough for freezing j purposes, several lines had to be passed I In stores, however, a better demand 1 existed, and every line was sold at im- j proved values. The cattle market was very poorly represented, no prime fat coming forward, and what stores were ] yarded were in very poor condition. The following are the prices realised : Fat crossbred ewes, 8s to 8r 4d ; forward conditioned 2-tooth ewes and wethers, 8s 3d ; small 2-tooth crossbred ewes, 5s 4d ; merino ewes in lamb, 4i ; crossbred lambs, 5r Id, 5a 33, 5s 6d ; culls, 2s 6d. Wa also sold privately a good line of f fat crossbred wethers, at 9s 91. Pat Cattle —None came forward. Calves, 11s.
