The cricket match between the Australians and English 11 ven which was arranged to take plac at Stoke yesterday conld not be commenced then owi*g to the rain which fell throughout the day. Play was, however, begun this morning, the weather being fine. The waa a large attendance. The Anttralians, by the excellent play of Giffen, Blackham and Brace, ran up a score of 248 before the last wicket fell. Giffen contribnted 63, Blackham 71, and Brace 43, all bowled. At the conclusion of the day’s play the Englishmen had scored 35 with one wiekel down.
