Sporting. ASHBURTON COUNTY HUN:' CLUB NNUAL STEEPLECHASES To be held on the RACECOURSE, ASHBURTON, On WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, 1886. Patron, Hon J. McLean ; President, Mr E. G. Wright ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs John Grigg, C. G. Hawdon, Drs Leahy and Ross ; Stewards. Messrs Bowyer, Denshire, Fooks, J. C. N. Grigg, jlerewether, McOwen, Rutherford, Reid, Upton, and Dr Leahy ; Judge, Mr Matthew Stitt ; Starter, Dr Leahy ; Clerk of the Scales, Mr Davis ; Clerk of the Course, Mr G. F. Scott; Handicappers, Messrs Cotton, Stitt, and Upton.
Tho first race to start at 12.30 p.m. 1. Handicap Hurdle Race, of 15 sovs, over eight flights of hurdles, about 3ft Gin high ; nomination, 10a; acceptance, sa. Open to district horses that have been regularly hunted with the Ashburton Hounds. Two Miles. 2. Steeplechase Cop(handicap minimum weight lOst), of 30 sovs (tropic or cash ; nomination, 1 sov ; acceptances, 10s ; open to all qualified hunters; amateur riders only. About | three miles over fair hunting country, 13, Selling Hack Race, of 10 sovs ; post entry, 10s; no weight under Oat; tho winner to be sold by auction immediately after the race, amount realised above 15 sovs to go to tho funds of the Club. Three-quarter of a mile on the flat. 4. Maiden Steeplechase Plate, of 15 sovs, (or horses that have never won an advertised steeplechase; weight for ago ; entrance, 15s. Open to all district horses that have been regularly hunted with the Ashburton Hounds. About two miles. 5. Hunter's Flat Race Handicap, of 15 sovs ; minimum weight. lOst; nomination, 10s ; acceptance, ss. Open to all qualified hunters. Horses be fore starting for this race must qualify over a hurdle to tho satisfaction of the Stewards. Two miles. G. Consolation Handicap Steeplechase, of 10 sovs ; nomination, 10s; acceptance free. One and a half miles.
RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. No entry will bo received except on the condition that all disputes, claims, and objections arising out of the racing shall bo decided by tho Stewards, or whom they may appoint ; their decision on all points connected with carrying out this programme to bo final. -2. Grand National Steeplechase Buies adhered to when applicable. 3 A district horse shall moan any orse that has been commonly resident in the Ashburton County from May 18, 1886, and up to the date of the forthcoming meeting, and owned by a person who has resided in the said County during the same period.—A qualified hunter shall mean any horse that has been fairly hunted, at least three times, with any recognised pack of hounds during tho season 1886. 4. Five per cent, will be deducted from the gross of all moneys payable in accordance with this programme for expenses of tho course. 5. All nominations and acceptances go to the funds of the Club. 6. An amateur rider .shall be any person who has never ridden for hire, and who is a member of a recognised Hunt Club. 7. Professional riders will be required to carry 71b extra, in all races to which they are admitted, except in Hack Race. 8. Nominations, accompanied by fees, name, age, description of horse, and colors of rider, and a master of hounds’ certificate ns to the qualification, must be in the hands of the Secretary not later than 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 7. 9. Weights will be declared on Thursday, August 12. 10. Acceptances must be made to the Secretary not later than 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17. S SAUNDERS 7 237 Socrotai v.
