ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
Messrs Matson, Cox, and Co. report upon the live stock market for the Ashburton district for the week ending July 20th as follows:—On 'luesday, at the Tinwald Yards, we held our usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. There was a fair entry of sheep and cattle, and the attendance of farmers and dealers was above the average. In fat sheep the market was over supplied, and competition was very slack, one line only of exceptionally good crossbred wethers elici ing spirited bidding, but this line suffered in proportion to the late fall in the Addington Yards. Cattle sold fairly well, a good line of forward steers being the prin ipal entry fov the day. There was a small entry of pigs, which were very dull of sale, hbeep sold as follows:—Fat crossbred wethers, 7a 9d to lls ; ewes, 7s to 8s fid ; in fc tores— crossbred wethers, 6a 4d to 7s ; lambs, 4s 9d to 4s lid. Cattle— Fat steers, light weights, £4 to £5 7s; store steers, £4 lls to £5 Bs.
