Fruitgrowers Association. Auckland, July 13. A Fruitgrowers Association was formed last night and Mr Thomson was elected president. It was resolved to oppose any alteration in the present Codlin Moth Aofc Gisborne Petroleum Works. Gisborne, July 13.

Weaver, the mins manager of the South Pacific Petroleum Works, reports the third sand was struck at 1140 feet, the drill being 40 feet in advance. This drill bored one foot into this sand when a good show of oil was found and a plug was then inserted, according to instruct tions from Sydney. Upon opening the hole the plug was fonnd to have been forced np 40 feet to the bottom of the pipe and some 60 or 70 feet of oil and sand forced round the ping into the pipe. A jammer was placed on the plug, which was driven within ten feet of the bottom. All fluid yaa then balled out, but within an hoar the pipe h*d filled to the same depth again, and was bailed pn£ three times with the same result. It la estimated that present Indications are good for e 20 to 30 barrel well.

Jumped Overboard. Chbistcucrch, July 13

During the passage of the Penguin from Dunedin to Lyttelton a steerage passenger named-James Trelesven jumped over, board and was drowned. The body was recovered and brought to Lyttelton.
