Auckland, July 9
At the Supremo Court to-day W. Henry Graham, for breaking into and entering a jeweller’s shop, received a sentence of nine months’ imprisonment. John Connell, fora safe robbery at Porter and Co.’s, Symonds street, received seven years’ penal servitude. The grisoner had been previously convicted at Wellington Dnnedin, and Oamaru. Fred, Jones, for being an accomplice in the same robbery, got five years’ penal servitude. He had been convicted at Wellington and Wanganui
A meeting of ratepayers at Newton last night resolved to borrow £6500 for drainage, water, and road works in the borough At the City Council meeting it was stated that a cow suffering from cancer hadi lately been slaughtered at the city abattoirs, and bad been sent to a shop and sold as Imman food. The matter was referred to a committee, and the Inspector was called on to give evidence. At the Police Court this morning M. Lurney, charged with attempted murder at the North Shore, was brought up and further remanded.
