ASHBURTON COURSING CLUB.
SECOND DAY. Sport was resumed on the Laghmor Estate shortly after nine o’clock yesterday morning, and the;card was completed early In the afternoon Hares were rather more plentiful than on the first day, and Mr J. W, Mcßae, who relieved Mr Porter at the slips, made the very best nae of the game that came to band. The various officials discharged their respective duties in a satisfactory manner, and several capital courses were run off during the day. The following are the results :
All eged Stakes, Final.
Mr H. Alexander’s r d First Lord, by Champagne Charlie —Ladybird, beat Mr J. W. Mcßae’s bdl d Korero, by Waipa —Psyche, and won. Poppy Stakes Second Round. Highland Mary beat Vega Factory Boy beat Jack Tar Yorkshire Lad beat Tearlng-Young-Fellow. Third -Round. Highland Mary beat P»-t'ry Boy Yorkshire Lid n ’ ; Final. Mr H. Tasker’s fns) b d Yorkshire Lad. by Forest Lad—Tell-Tale II , beat Mr T. Alexander’s w f b Highland Mary, bj Champagne C arlie—Bonnie Scot and, and won. All- Aged Stakes, Final—First Lord and Korero ran two undecideds, in the last of which the latter seriously injured one of his feet. At the third attempt they were slipped to a strong hare, and First Lord led his lame opponent 'all the way. and won easily. Poppy Stakes.
Second round—Highland Mary led np and turned. Vega then got In and rap d exchanges followed. Highland Mary did moat of the concluding work and just won. Factory Boy had all the best of the course with Jack Tar. Yorkshire Lad led from slips, turned, and placed Tearing Young Fellow. Tearing Young Fellow scored a couple, but was again displaced and well beaten In a short coarse.
Third round—Factory Boy secured first turn. A good give and take course followed, of which Highland Mary had rather the best and won. Yorkshire Lad ran a bye, during which he did a lot of severe work.
Final —Yorkshire Lad led up, turned, and placed Highland Mary, who held possession for a couple, and then let the dog in. Exchanges followed, and when the hare escaped, Yorkshire Lad had won.
