PROFESSORS HUTTON’S EXPLORATIONS.
Auckxaitd, Jaly 7.
Professor Hatton returned to Rotoran last night, after five days* inspection of the elfecti of the eruptions on the Galatea side He first visited Rotomahana, and then attempted to reach Tarawera mountain from the eastern aide, but did not get within ten miles of the place. He states there is a crater right on top of Tarawera proper, and with a glass he made out two steaming streaks down the side of the meant, which he believes to be lava streams. Professor Hutton has not yet m t the Auckland Professors, who are in camp at Kaiteriria collecting data, but are expect ad lack tc—day. The Pro fessorial trio will then hold a conference. Professor Hatton is properly reticent as to his opinions until he has communicated with the Government, but he apprehends no further danger, and thinks the ascent of Tarawera will be a perfect summer ex* pedition.
