AN ANOMALY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sik, —Would you kindly inform me by what principle our County Councillors are guided when press of business requires a portion put off to another mooting ? I would beg to draw y, a; „.i more particularly to a petition from a number of ratepayers in the Dro.nore district, praying for separation from the Upper Ashburton Road Board, and another petition from ratepayers in Mayfield district desiring separation from Hangitata Read Board. The Dromore ratepayers, I may state, had to conform to requirements supposed necessary by advertising for one month in one of the local papers, and their petition has time after time since then been before the Council for their consideration, and for one reason or another been as often set aside The Mayfield settlers are'more fortunate, as their petition was granted at last meeting, nod I am not aware (but am open to correction) that they complied with the objection made at the previous meeting, when Mr Harper ruled that the petition could not be considered until it had been advertised one month. Could you, sir, enlighten me on this anomaly, and oblige,—Yours, &c.,
A Clodhopper*
