The Elections.

The following prominent candidates have been elected to the new Parliament : —Samuel Whitbread (Liberal) Bedford; W. H, Smith (Conservative) Strand Division, London; HicksBeach (Conservative) Bristol, West Division; Herbert Gladstone (Liberal) Leeds, West Division, by a large majority; Lord Randolph Churchill (Conservative), Paddington South Division, by a greater majority than at the last general election ; Caine, for Barrow-in-Furness. -
July 4. The latest election returns show 148 Conservatives, 26 Unionists, 54 Gladstones, and 17 Parnellites. The following are re-elected :■—• Robert Bourke, Conservative, Kingslynn; Cohen, Conservative, Paddington North; Peter Rylands, Liberal, Burnby; Thomas Rae and Sir Wm. Vernon Harcourt, Liberals, Derby; John Crancky and Sir Thomas Esmonde, Nationalists, Dublin seats. The follow ing places held in the last Parliament by Liberals have been secured by Con- • servatives :—South Bristol, West Salford, South S;-lford, East Birmingham, and South Nottingham. Supporter of Mr Gladstone defeated Conservative for Liverpool. Bright (sic.) elected for Manchester South-west division in p'ace of Lord Fred Hamilton, Conservative. Schwan, Liberal, carried Conservative seat for North; Division of Manchester. Broadhurst, Liberal, elected for Nottingham West Division. Davenny defeated for Stockport; Thomas Brassey, Liberal, for Liverpool seat; and Hibberr, Liberal, for Oldham. The feature of the elections throughout the country is increased voting on both sides.
