(4) From the Survey Offiie, Ohristchurch. in re-ply to a letter the Board, stating that a certain road was a Government road. - Mr Brown mentioned sevorat roads in the district which ho said wese of no use, and should bo done away with —After a brief discussion the mat ter w«s deferred until next nvet icg, the Surveyor in the meantime to communicate with interosted persons to ascertain thdr willingness or otherwise to concur with the course suggested by Mr Brown. (5) From Mr J. DEPUTATION. Mr Leadley waited on the,Board and said that his access to a road past his property w?s cut off by a drain, and he requested sufficient timber lo erect a bridge or culvert. The matter was deferred until -iftor consideration of the Surveyor's report. surveyors' report. The Surveyors' report was read as follows: (1) Wakanui Station road: Immediately after our inspection before last meeting, and which we reported as not being commenced, the contractor started at work on this road, and has just completed it.—(2) Hampton road; The contractor for forming road has completed his work, but owing to his not having ' thoroughly levelled it, we directed him to j have this done before a final certificate could be granted. He is now finishing it off (3) Footbridges, Wakanui School road : The i footbridges authorised at last meeting have been erected. The gorse has been cleared , out of the drain between the school grounds and the gully.—(4)-Wilson's road; We are < having the damage caused at the junction of this and McGuiro's road repaired.—(;">) Intake, Wakanui Mill race : We inspected this . as directed at last meeting, and find that the stream is setting in against the bank, and - causing a scour. This at present only causes I loss to the owner of the section, and might be easily remedied. We found the flood gate in bad repair, and notified to the County Council the Board's wish that precautions Should be taken to prevent an undue quantity coming this way in tho event of floods, and probably damaging the roads. (6) Drain between Messrs Wilson's and ' Wright's : This drain evidently carries a considerable quantity of storm water, and to be 1 suitable for the purposo it is intended requires widening about four feet aDd swing panels erected at junction with road. The cost would be about £l4. We might say that this storm water does not damage the road, land the drain ■would give moro relief - to the owners of sections adjacent than to the road. As widening the drain would take ] more laud for both drain and tho spoil taken f out, it is probable compensation would be asked for land taken.— (7) Leadley's road : We have examined tho approach to Mr Ben- ] tinck's land, and consider that a ford could be made in lieu of bridge.—(B) The maintenance man has been employed in No. 2 ward. His diary lies on the table. INTAKE WAKADUI MIIT,. With reference to this matter tho Chairman ssid he thought tho Board had done all in its po\*r iu bringing the j question under the no l .ice of tho County Com cil. A short conversation a'' discussion ensued j between the Chaiimm and Mr Brown, the latter expressing his op'nion that great damage would poasibla result unless something were done. Ho did not think the Board should wait until a flood came down tho riverand did irreparable damage. He| moved "That unless the sluice in the Wskanui Mill raco ba at once put in pr to the theSur veyor the race, a-ross the Bjach road, be stopped by tho Roard " Mr Lill and tha Chairra in thought it would be outside the B ard'a sphere of ac'ion to taWe such .-. p.o.ecding. < A short desu't cy >:i took place, in the c urse of whiih Mr Brown said thM unless Eonvthin;> wore done tha sett -era whose pr. sperti. a were jeopardiesd - wouli set the Couti y C luncil at defiance at;d take the matter in the ir rwn hands At this tha Su-veyor read the letter he had »dd o-«ed tn the County Conr.cil on the suhjec* Mr C le teconded Mr Brown's motion. The Chairman suggested that Mr Brown should strike out the wc.rds in his resolution with regard to stopping the race Mr I.ill moved as an amentlraont that in view of probable damage to roads the Council's attention be again cilled to the unsatisfactory state of the fl lod-gates to the intake of the Wakanui Mill race and they be requested to attend lo the same {without delay."—The Chairman
