The Orange workmen employed at the Queen Islands Yards attacked, on J une 4th, the navvies employed by the Harbor Commissioners, overpowering them and beating them savagely. They drove them into the water, and it was with the greatest difficulty that, the injured, exhausted, aad Straggling were rescued. Tne Orangemen made the assault because the navvies, it is alleged had previously attacked some Bayalists for aspersing the Home Rule movement. Intense excitement prevailed among the lojal Catholics in consequence of the att ck. The Orangemen numbered 2000, and the navvies but 103, and a repetition of the historical riots was feared. Policemen fully armed patrolled the city, and the military were he’d in v readiness within their barrac-s. Thirty Catholics were injured, and twelve of the injured were taken to the hospital. The body of James Curry, one of the navvies, who was missing for a time, Ins been recovered He was the sole support of a widowed mother. The Maine fishermen have held a Convention, and resolved to reaV by force all future attempts of the Canadians to seize their vessels for infringing their fishing laws.
