The Gorman press, referring to ihe f«ct that the first vessel in connection with the new German mail steamship line to Australia will leave Bremerhaven on 14th July, speaks of the occasion as a national event. It is probadle that the departure of the vessel will be marked by some sped I demonstration at which Prices Bismarck will be present.

The trial of Maxwell on a charge of having murdered his companion, A. PnclPr, in th“S uthern Hotel, St. Louis, with the assurance given bj E»rl has been concluded* The pr'soner has been convicted o tho charge. The prospectus has been issued of the Oriental Banks Estates Company, which is proposed to bo established for the .purpose of purchasing and working the estates which belonged to the Oriental Bank.
Negotiations between Jha Governments of England and France with regard to the proposals of tho latter for the annexation of New Hebrides have terminated by the English authorities in view of tho opposition raised by the Australian colonies being unwilling to accept tho terms offered.
