ASHBURTON TRADESMEN'S RACING CLUB.
The half -yearly general meeting of the Tradesmen’s R»cing Club was hel I at the Cominer ial Hotel las - There was a large attendance, and Mr J. C.
Dunean, Ghahman o f l-he Committee, presided. The Secretary read the Com
raittee’s report as follows :
REPORT The Committee have much pleasure iu co- gratu’ating the members at their first annual meeting on the Club’s position, both financially and otherwise As yon are aware, the Club (under its prea-nt name) came in*o existence on the 92nd .Tanu iry last, gin o which a race meeting has been held, at which the sub stantM aura of £207 15s was added to t o stakes, and resu'ting in the sum Ol £24 Da Id standing to the credit of the Club with the Bank of New Ze Band ; from this, however, must be deducted the only liability now outstanding, being C 4 los voted to bo paid to the Secretary at this meeting. The above balance, wo havs every reason to believe, would have been materially increased had no- wot weather occurred on both days of the meeting. * ie privileges solddid not reahse quite as much as was expected, and in all future calculations it will be necessary, in order to be on a sound footing, to place these at a still lover valuation. The totalisator receipts exceeded the estimate formed and in a great measu-o acted fortunately as a set off against the reduced sum from the sale of privileges. It will be necessary to night to elect a President, Vics-President, Judge, Trea surer, Haudicappor, Starter, Clerk of the Scales, Clerk of the Course, eleven Committeemen, and five Stewards. The g° n " tlemen now holding these poaiti ms are eligible for re-election. In looking through the Rules we find that under Knle 4 the date at which subscriptions fall due does not seem a convenient one, and suggest that an alteration made in this direction wi 1 be to the advantage of the Club, the sami remark applying to Rule No. 21. 1 BALANCE SHEET
The balance Sh ier., when hts already been adop ed and published, was laid on on the table. On the motion of Mr <t. F Scou seconded by Mr Purchase the report was adopted.

alteration of kcle. The Chairman gave notice that at next general meeting of the Club he would move “ That the annual subscription be payable on October 1, in place of February 1,” and the Secretary was directed to call a special meeting of the Club to consider the motion.
