THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.

At a meeting ot the Midland Railway Guarantors held in Christchurch yesterday, Mr C. 0. Bowen read a letter from Mr Allan Scott, reporting the conclusion of the London delegate’s business, and giving the names of the directors of the new company. The directorate is considered the strongest that has been formed for a long time. The names are—Mr Thomas Salt, Chairman of the North Staffordshire Railway Company; Sir Charles Clifford, Chairman of the N.Z. Trust and Loan Company ; Mr Hart Davis, of Messrs Hoare, Wilson, and Co,, London ; Mr t*. B. Hilton, of Messrs Miles Bros, and Co., London;; and Mr C. B, Hoare, Chairman of the National Bank of New Zealand. The engineers of the company in London are Mr J. Carruthers, late resident Engineer-in-Chief to the New Zealand Government, and Mr Robert Wilson. The Chief lleaident Engineer io New Zealand is Mr 0. Napier Ball. Mr Scott eulogises the valuable assistance given by the AgentGeneral in arranging the final matters ot the contract, and recognises the able advice and assistance given by Messrs A. Soianders and A. Fell, who ungrudginglj gave time and trouble to carry this tedious and difficult business to a successful issue.
