CIVIL CASES. Nicholson v Clayton, claim £3 15s Mr White for plaintiff. O.uo adj lunieu for fourteen days. Spenctr v Bczjnherg, claim £52 9s 7d Mr Caygill lor plaintiff, Mr White for defendant. This was a case in which th plain iff olait, e I the rent! ut;on of certain goods, horses and chattels, alleged t' have been illegally seiz id by the defend ,int, also damages for the detention, and trespass iu connec ion with the allo wed illegal seizure Mr Caygill called the following evidence ;M. Spencer, the plaintiff, said he lived at Ashburton horka Ha knew a man named Kinlay, ''’ho used to reside near him. On A pro 20 last he bought tv o horses from Kiulay ; lUcße were the horae*. specified in tin ■laim. Witness gave £2O for the two horses and harness. At this stage Mr White asked for th. production of the receipt which the wit ness said he had given him by Kinlay t appearing that it was in Christchurch, and a material witness for the plaintiil l e iD S absent, it waa decided to adjourn the case until Friday. The Court then mar.
