Auckland, June 3. The Mangawhare Hotel with contents was totally destroyed by fire this morning. The. loss is estimated at £I4OO, It is believed to be covered by insurance. Fire quite accidental, but origin unknown, A Rich Claim Thames, June 3. A few weeks ago a new discovery of gold was made at Waiomo situated about 10 miles from Thames. Splendid loose prospects of gold were obtained, and in consequence a number of claims in the vicinity were pegged out. The prospectors a day or two ago had a parcel of 21 tons of general dirt and 200 pounds picked stuff packed to the Thames foe treatment by one of the batteries. The crushing was finished to-day fer the rich return of 160 ounces retorted gold, which is valued at about £3 Ss'per ounce.
