Mr J. H. Newlyn, the energetic Secretary of the Colonial Land Association appears to be in no way depressed by the reception accorded by members of Parliament to the Land Association Bill. Mr Newlyn is prepared to show that his proposals are far better and more practicable than the proposals contained in Mr Macandrow’s measure, and it is reputed that Mr Ivess, who is in charge of Mr Newyln’s maynnm, ojmx, has been requested to press the second reading of the Bill on Thursday evening.

They must also be prepared for tho blacks, and with medicine for fever and ague, or scurvy. There is a large extent of auriferous country; but it will take a long time to test it properly and no one should throw up a billet to go there.

Since the Ashburton Industrial Exhibition —now a matter of history—a case of “ specimens,” intended as the nucleus of an Ashburton mueseum has reposed “ unseen by day" in the meeting chamber of the Ashburton Borough Council. Several attempts have been made to enlarge this collection, but still the “ stones of small worth" have preserved their solitary grandeur. Now, however, the Town Clerk, Mr C. Braddell, has announced his readiness to take charge of any additions to tho collection, and we trust residents in the neighborhood who have specimens of ore and manufactures, models of machinery and such like interesting novelties will assist Mr Braddell in forming a collection which will be a useful and pleasant relief to the present sombre aspect of the Council Chambes.
