The Handicap Harness Trot was won by Mr F. Douglas’ Wait-a-While (35seo) in Drain losec. The Lancaster Park Handicap (in saddle), three miles, of -10 sovs, was won by Mr B. Edwards’ Fidget {sosec); Mr D. O’Brien’s Erin (15sec) second. The winner’s time was thuin, and the dividend £l2 3s.

Next Sunday ] the local volunteers will assemble for a church parade, and will attend tho services at the Wesleyan Church. The Rev- A. 0. Lawry, of St. Albans, will be tho preacher on this occasion.

A public service is to bo hold at the Wo leyan Church next week. Tho gathering will bo in the nature of a “ reception tea ” to Rev. T. W. Newbold, who some time ago arrived here as colleague to Rev. D. MoNicoll. We learn that Mr T. F.Farley has disposed of tho stationery business he has carried on in Ashburton for some years to Messrs H. J. Wood and Co. of Christchurch, and will shortly take his'departuro for Timaru.

At the Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning, George Macauloy was charged with having been drunk in a public place yesterday. The offence was fully proved, and, being the third conviction within one month, it was ordered that the accused should be imprisoned for seven days with hard labor; ; His Worship the Mayor occupied the Bench.

The Ashburton Hounds mot at Waterton on Saturday afternoon. The number of followers was small, but tho sport was very good, and the visitors were most hospitably entertained by Mr A. Dawson.
