THE NEW HEBRIDES QUESTION.
Mei,b oufiNEj, May 28. His Excellency the Governor has received a telegram from Lord Granville, Secretary of State for the Colonies, informing him that Her Majesty’s Government have deferred sending a definite reply to the proposal of France regarding the occupation of the Hebrides until they are in receipt of despatches from the various colonial Governments, setting forth their views upon the matter. Lord Granville adds, however, that the French Government has been informed of the probable nature of the reply.
