Auckland, May 21. A volunteer review was held here in honor of rhe Queen’s Birthday, and SOU Volunteers were present. Tho local Battery of Artillery fired a salute. There were 5000 spectators present. A meeting of clergy representing the Anglican, Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Congregational. Baptist, Primitive Methodist, and Tree Methodist churches was held to-day re die New Hebrides annexation question. The Kev. E. Bavin presided. A resolution was passed, endorsing the action of tho Presbyterian Church, and pledging support. _ ~o telligence has been received by the ata from Fiji that the Fijian Government rejected the reciprocal proposals submitted by the New Zealand Government. Among the Arawata’a passengers for Melbourne is the Hon. H. J. Berkley, AttorneyGeneral of Fiji. The steamer Suva is to run monthly trips between Fiji and Tonga. Wellixoton May 24.
A youth named H 1). Young was accidentally shot in the abdomen while practising at a target with a revolver at Day's Bay yesterday. He was removed to the hospital. The wound is believed to be not of a serious nature.
Two parties have left Wellington for the Kimberley diggings. A man named Alfred Henning died suddenly at Petone this morning. Deceased, who recently arrived from England, had been suffering from acute asthma. The Japanese warship Tsukuba sailed this afternoon for Fiji. The Governor’s levee to-day was well atended. Among those present were the officers of the Japanese ship Tsukuba and the Russian Vestrix.
