An enquiry into the wreck of the Star of the Mersey waa held last evening at the Custom House. Captain Christain says ha left Kaipara on Wednesday, and on Thursday, at 330 p m., the ship sprang a leak, and, notwithstanding all hia efforts, he found at midnight aha had made 2ft of water. Kept on pumping, but finding at 4 in the miming the water had m creased to Gft, he made for the laud. At 9 yesterday morning brought up off the end of the breakwater. The water was then over the between deck beams, tie let go anchors and hoisted signals of distress. The Harbor-Master came aboard and took him and the crew off, and the vessel parted her cables as soon as they left and went ashore. The cause of the leak was, the captain says, one of the butts starting.
