A petition at the Chamber of Commerce is being signed consisting of an appeal to Government against the annexation of tho Now Hebrides by France. At a meeting of the Diocesan Synod, presided over by Bishop Oowie, a resolution deprecating the annexation was carried.

Petitions to the General Assembly and ' City Council being signed praying for a repeal of the operation of the Contagious Diseases Act, _ It is expected that 300 will be present at the Bryce banquet to-morrow afternoon including members of the Ministry and seventy members of the Legislature.
