A man named Daniel Maloney, who was charged with stealing a pony belonging to Mr Harvey, of Wakapuaka, was tc-day committed for trial. The charge la that prisoner took the pony on the morning of April 26, and rode it without a saddle through Ria Yalley, Havelock, and Wairau to the Hanmer a distance of 200 miles. At a preliminary meeting of policyholders of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, it was decided to hold another meeting to consider the Directors’ proposal to establish a London agency. In consequence of a representation from Colonel Fargood, from Aujkland, that united efforts were almost certain to ensure success against the French designs on the New Hebrides, the fol owing telegram has been sent to the Moderator of the Presbyterian Synod at Auckland : “ The Synod may depend on the hearty and united support of the Dunedin community in protesting against the French annexation of the New Hebrides.—(Signed) John Barnes (Mayor), William Salmond (Moderator of the Synod), Robebt Scotx ( Rear-Ad miral). ”
