DRUNKENNESS. William Smith, an old offender, against whom a prohibition order was in force, was charged with drunkenness. A flue of 20i and coats, with the alternative of 48 hours imprisonment, was inflicted. LARCENY. James Sc >tt was charged with the larceny of goods of the value of 18s, the property of it. J. Whittle, from the booth at the racecourse. The accu.od was also charged with the larceny of a saddle, of the value of L 4, the property of W. Spring, of S'Uthbridge —Mr J, W. While, of Timarn, appeared for the accused, who pleaded guilty to the first charge. The hearing of the second charge was adjourned until Friday next. —Mr White asked the Bench to deal leniently w ith the accused, as there were extenuating circumstances, and he had a wife and fan children dependent on him. He had Mr Whittle’s authoiity for saying that hat gentleman did not wish to press the charge.—Sergeant Felton said the case was not a light one. The accused was the caretaker of the racecourse, and as such should have protected all properly thereon, and, besides, it was not his first < {fence. The Magistrate commented on the serious nature of the case, and sentenced the accused to 21 days 1 ard labor. BREACH OF BOROUGH BY LAWS. For allowing a chimney to take fire William Smith was fined 10a and costs

O'Shea, two dogs, fined 20a and costs ; William Bennot, one dog, fined 10a and costs ; William Swan, three dogs, fined 30* and costs; William Rich, two dogs, fined 20* and costs ; W. Hayman, one dog, fined 10a and coats ; 0. Williamson, one dog, fined 10a ; John Donaldson, one dog, fined 10a and costa ; Wm. Bakers, one dog, fined 10s and coats ; Wm. Gray, one dog, fined 10* and coats ; John Cowan, one dog, fined 10s and costs. The Court then rose.
