All injured by the late fire are doing well, except Frosdyke and Neil, who are still low, and doubts are entertained of their recovery. A quantity of saponaceous matter, 41b in weight, found in in the ruins of the fire, is bolived to bo the remains of a human body. The body of the old man who died is still unidentified.
Further prosecutions for breaches of the Fisheries Conservation Act by gathering oysters are to be brought. The Bootmakers’ Union have appointed a Committee of six to meet the employers, with full power to settle the dispute. Wellington, May 15.
J. Stuart Reid’s liabilities are stated as £lO9l. The only asset is the furniture, valued at £O4O.
At the Appeal Court, judgment was reserved in the Auckland case, Te Haiha v Grice and others. In the Napier case, Kiwhatav. Russell and others, the appeal was dismissed, with costs on the highest scale against the appellant. Oamaku, May IG.
Mr Hislop, M. H.R. for Oamaru, addressed bis constituents last night. Ho gave his reasons for opposing the Ministry last session, and announced himself an opponent of the present Ministry. Ho recieved a vote of confidence.
Mr Duncan, M.H.R. for Waitaki, has also addressed bis constituents, and he also received a vote of confidence.
