INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.

Auckland, May 12.

In response to a requesfr from the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce Mr Mitchelaon, late Minister for Publ'c Works, has furnished a report upon the several lines of railway—the North of Auckland railwaj ; the trunk Hue ; branch line eastward to Napier ; Rotorua to Gisborne ; deep water extension to Whangarei, and loop line from Auckland to Pentose.

Sir George Grey was a passenger by the Tainui for Wellington. At a meeting of the Operative Bootmakers’ Union it was decided to moderate the demand upon the employers. The tariff was revised, a reduction being made in several instances.

Mr Noble’s temperance mission meeting was very successful. He intends going !South if invited.

The members of the Harbor Board and the City Council pay an official visit to the Japanese warship Tsukuba on Friday. A petition has been filled in the Divorce Court by Mrs Eveline Sawkins, of Wellington praying for a dissolution of her marri ge with Thomas George Sawkins, journalist, on the grounds of desertion, cruelty, and adultery. At the Appeal Court, Auckland, the case of Te Itaild v Grace is still being argued, and is not likely to conclude before to-morrow.

The weather is very wet for the opening of Parliament. There are already 19 members of the Upper House, and 38 members of the Lower House in town.

Margery Turner and George Campbell, the couple who attenpted to elope to Melbourne, and were at rested at the Bluff, appeared at the police court to-day, on a charge of stapling linen belonging to Mrs Turner’a husband, the charge against the woman was withdrawn by the husband, and the case against Campbell was adjourned, bail being allowed.

Gisborne, May 1 The Racehorse Leonata has b burnt to death in a stable which w destroyed by fire. Whether the hois® was insured or not is not known.
