The Secretary of the Colonial Land Assocition sends the following ;—Members of both Houses of Parliament have been invited to meet the Secretary of *ho Colonial Laud Association, and any farmers who can conveniently attend, at 2 p.m. on Saturday next, at the Commercial Hotel. The I3 : 'l which has been prepared to give effect to the agitation for “ cheap money ” wi’l then be discussed by those present. Several representatives have already signified their intention to attend. Mails for the United Kingdom, via Melbourne, per Manapouri, close at the Bluff at noon on Friday. At a meeting of the Christchurch Drainage Board held last night a letter was received from the Brnk of New Zealand declining to accept the Board’s cheque for £Ol3/>, the amount of interest duo by fhe board in London on Juno the 30th. The manager ro- ! turned the cheque, and wrote that ho could not pay the amount until ho received from the board a guarantee that they would apply to the Government for additional rating power or take such other steps as would igroatly reduce the present overdraft. The board resolved to instruct their solicitors to take the necessary steps for obtaining the authority of Parliament to allow them to anticipate their revenue as provided by the Municipal Corporarations Act. A meeting of the Eangitata Eoad Board was hold at the Board’s office on Monday. Present Messrs Peter, Strachcy, Harper, Doyle, and Burgess. On the motion of the lion W. S. Peter, seconded by Mr C. M. Straohey, Mr C. Harper was elected Chairman. After passing accounts and disposing of other routine business the Board adjourned until Monday, June 7. The Taiaro enquiry was resumed at Wellington to-day. Mr Travers addressed the Court on behalf of Captain Thomson, and the Court then adjourned until to-morrow at 10 p.m., when judgment will bo given.
