SIR W. FOX AND PARLIAMENTARY HONOURS.

The following letter from Sir W. Fox with regard to his rumored candidature for a Nelson constituency should be an effectual reply to all the car ti ds that have been set afloat on that subject:— *' As regards politics, the rumor in the ‘ Evening Post’ must have been a pure, or impure, invention. I should not have the assurance to put myself forward as a candidate for Nelson or any other place, unless I received a requisition from a representative body of electors. I should be very glad to represent Nelson if I wore a candidate for parliamentary honors, which lam not; but I believe iny politica l creed would entirely disqualify me. Ido not believe in the East and West Coast Railway, at all events not farther than may have boon contemplated by oar Public Works scheme of 1870. If I entered Parliament I shorld do so entirely independent of either of the existing parties, and should docliao to support either the Stout-Vogel Ministry or the Atkinson-anybouy else, I forr lam under those circumstances not likely to be invited by any constituency; and considering that wherever I might be I should have the publican and the Catholic block votes against me, I think my chance of being returned is extremely dubious. I think also that I can be of more use at present out of the House than in it.”— Exchange.
