SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.

The first meeting of the newly elected Sooth Rakaii Road Board wsa held at the Boaad’s office yesterday. Present—s Messrs Holmes, Coster, Tucker, and i Mulligan. r CHAIRMAN, r Mr Coster was re-eseated Chairman, t WORKS The Clerk was directed to hare a number of trees transplanted, and to hare the water races made through the township. It was resolved that the two calvaria on the first portion of the Great South Road be taken up at once and open crossings substituted. The Clerk was Instructed to famish an estimate for removing the tussocks from some of the roads near the Village Settlement, CHERTS ST ROAD. No definite reply having been received from the Rail tray Department, it was resolved to write again, and ask if the Department would recommend that the piece of road in question be handed over o the Road Board. WATSR BAGS CROSSINGS. The Ciers was instructed to have a number of gratings made for water race crossings. BOUNDARY ROADS. Recommendations were read, from persons who had attended the annual meeting, with regard to the cost of fotmlng boundary roads. It was di & covered, from the reports appearing inthp Ashburton Guardian some years ago, that a promise had been made hy the late Chairman (Sir G N. Whit« (Island), protesting against rates being charged on reserves, and enclosing cheque for what he considered himself liable ; Resolved, “ That a fortnight’s notice be given to all who have not paid their rates that they will be sued.”—(s) From Mr F.
