WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Wakanni Road Board was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs M. Bruce (chairman), Walsh, White, Oole, and Lill. CORRESPONDENCE. The following oorreapondenoe was read: —(I) From the Ashburton Borough Council, enclosing account for L 3 13a expenses of Fire Brigade at Lancuter’a fire. The amount was ordered to be paid, subject to the Town District not being gazetted.—(2) From the Electors’ Protection Association, stating objects, etc, of the Association. The members considered the Association desirable, and would individually assist in carrying out its objects (3) From the Borough Poundkeeper, asking the B oard to appoint him Ranger, in order to prevent persons grazing stock on the roads. Also stating the application was made at the request of owners of property. Referred to the Incoming Board.—(4) From Mr G. W, Laadle/, calling the attention of the Board to the loss he had incurred through persons allowing their gorse cuttings to remain in the drain. This debris had collected and flooded his property, and had also broken away the panels in the drain. He asked to have swing panels erected in the place of the fixed ones. He also asked the Board to strictly enforce thv clause of the Public Works Act relating to the obstruction of drains, and to compel the ratepayers to clean out drains past their properties. Mr Leadley further asked the Board to reopen drain on Christie’s road. The Surveyor was authorised to have the necessary works done, and to write to persons fronting the drain that if they should fail to keep the drain clear of gorse, the Board will take legal proceedings.—(6) From Mr N. Fitzgerald, in reference to overflow of drain on bio land. Received. smith’s road.
Mr White pointed out the need for certain repairs on this road and at the bridge. To be attended to. Christie's road (charing cross.) It was resolved to have a short length of drain made to relieve standing pools on the road. WATER RACES. The Surveyor was authorised to have planks put across water races where desirable. surveyors’ report The Surveyors’ report was read as follows : authorised some time ago, and by representations of the member for the Ward as to the necessity of the work, we have had the footpath of Cambridge street leading from the Beach road to the Side School metalled ; tenders were duly called and that of W. Munro (at Is 8d per yard) accepted. —(?) Hampton road : The contractor is progressing with the formation of this road. —(3) Bridge, Beach road: As directed at last meeting, we have forwarded notice of the state of the decks of this bridge to the Bank of New Zealand. Since then we have examined it more carefully, and find that the bearers also want renewing; we have advised the Bank on the nutter.—(4) Maintenance : The maintenance man has been engaged on various roads (a the district, and bis diary lies on the table. The report was adopted, and the Board adjourned.
