JUDICIAL DIGNITY.
♦ We do not hold ourselves responsible lor the opinions expressed by our correspondents.
To THE H DITOK Sib, —l was maoh amused at reading a paragraph in the papers stating that Judge Gillies refused to receive some documents because they were not addressed to “ Mr J uatioe Gillies.” It reminds me of a small boy giving his evidence in an B.M Court, who when asked by the Magistrate why his fellow servant kicked him out of bed, replied in broad Yorkshire lingo—- “ Because 01 oattid he ‘Jack.'” It appears that Judge GtlliSs is as tenacious of bis dignity as the man who kicked the lad out of bed. I am, etc., Dignity.
dissenting churches. To The Editor. Sir, —Wilt yob kindly inform me who are the “ Dissenting bodies ” you refer to in the Chtmrdicm of Saturday laat? I wdb under the impression there were no Dissenting bodies in the colonies. Are not all the denominations on the same footing in Mew Zealand! As your readers who do not belong to the Episcopalian Church may not like to be called *• Dissenters " perhaps you would not mind explaining this, and so obliging-—Yours, etc, , Christian. [ln England the term “ Dissenters ” is applied to those who dissent oi differ from the established Church of the country—the Episcopalian and tbs term is permitted, without ady very great accuracy, in the colonies to distinguish other church from the Episcopalian. Aa there is, happily, no established churches in Mew Zealand there is no dissent, but when writing on Saturday we could think of no more convenient or readily understood term to designate the Three Denominations.'' We need hardly assure our correspondent that we had do desire to offend the sensibilities of anyOhristian .—Ed G.
