Hews<m; Handic*ppers, the Handicapping Committee of the Club. The Ashburton Racing Club was favored with most enjoyable weather for the commencement of its annual Spring Meeting to-day. (Millet) 0 After some delay at the post, caused chiefly by the fracttonsness of Bill Allan, the field was despatched to a good' start, of which Why Not got rather the best At the first hurdle Dan O'Brien • led.
Wrangler and Bill Allan being his immediate attendants, Mammock ten leogtba away, and Why Not already tailing off. This order was maintained until the third hurdle, where Why Not ran off, end Msmmook and Bill Allah closed on tha leaden. At the half-mile post .Dan O’Brien fell back beaten, and Mamnjpck took command. Turning into the Captain and Wrangler made their efforts, hot could never extend the loader, who won by four lengths without an effort Captain, very nicely ridden by Mr Corbitt, was second, and Wrangler and Dan (TBrien, receiving unnecessary punishment, third and fourth respectively. (Thomas) 0 Jack jumped away with a four lengths lead, but was Immediately pulled back to the others, Tim WhifSer falling back. After they bad gone half a mile Little Pet was beaten, and Jack and Ht Bit took a strong lead.
