BPOBTINO NOTES. Bt “ HirroDAinA.” The acceptances received for the first day’s racing of the Spring Meeting of the Ashburton Racing Club, although they compare favorably with the •>umher received last year, are fir from satisfactory. This result, no dnubt, is in a measure doe to the character of the handicaps ; bat several owners who certainly had nothing to complain of on this score have not made the final payments. Of the Cap nominations, Maligner and Spade Guinea were very harshly treated by the handioappera; Locbiel, Hermitage and Leon are probably reserved for better things, and Master Agnes and Fusilier were weighted above their pub ic form. The owners of Talebearer, Fnsilade, Hermitage, Billy, and Pack really-bed nothing to find fault with, and it Is strange that only the two first named horses should have been left in. The weights for the Connty Hurdles were carefully allotted, but in the Open Hardies, Moody, Chance, and Mainboom were assigned unconscionable burden% fhe Lsdies’ Parse handicap was a fairly good productiou, and the Plying was tol - rshle. The Free handicap was, of coarse, en the same lines as the others and poa aesaed no particular merit. The are my anticipations for to-morrow’s rdaing * —Connty Hurdle Race, Dm O’Brien 1, Mammock 2, Bill Alien 3; Free Handicap, Tun Whiffiar 1, Tit Bit 2, Jack 3; Gup, Talebearer 1, Fnsilade 2 ; Ladies Purse, Tit Bit 1, Creamer 2, Tramp 3; Flying Handicap, Rocket 1, Talebearer 2, Jack 3 In the Open Hurdles, acceptances fur which close to morrow evening, the following should be the placed horses: —Master Agues 1, Secretary 2, Polly 3; although Andy will win easily if He go straight.
