At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, Or Thomas called attention to the f >ct that the spirit of the ballot was not Erovided for by the provisions of the ocal Elections Act. The numbers placed on the ballot papers were not concealed, and Ihe Returning Officer, and scrutineers while counting the votes, could readily discover iu what direction any particular elector voted. Some steps shon'd certainly be taken to remedy this state of affairs.
A meeting was held last evening in St Stephen's Schoolrom for the purpose of for mini- a Cricket Club in connection with the Sunday School and Choir of the Church It was d> c ; ded that the Club should be called the St Stephen’s Sunday School Cricket Club The Incumbent wa« elected President, and it was res lved to request Messrs David Thomas, John A. Caygill, and W. H. Kneen to act as VisePresidents. Arthur Prichard was chosen Captain, Reginald Curtis vice.Oaptain, Alfred Prichard Secretary and Caretaker. A Committee of five was then balloted for, resulting in the electionof John and Robert Mitchell, Mnllaney, Harold Curtis and Fred Cookaon. It was decided to challenge the second elevens of the Rakata School and Ashburton High School, and to hold practice every evening The meeting closed wi h three -'hears frr the new Club, which we hope will pio*e a to cess, and after a time »ct as a feeder to the ..Her established Clabs.
