The usual monthly meeting of the Wakatmi Road Board will be held at the Board’s office, Moore street, to-morrow morning. Mr 0. A. The Lyttelton Harbor Board, at its meeting yesterday, paa-ad the following resolution That this Board, representing nearly the whole of the district of North Canterbury which will be affected under the contemplated arrangement now before Parliament for the construction of the East and West Coast Railway, is of opinion that the present opportunity for the speedy carrying out of this m>st import colonial work should not be lost, even if the district mast be rated for the purpose." A statement of the Harbor Board s accounts for the past six months showed there hsd been a decrease in the. receipts of L 1.798, as compared with the corresponding period of last year.'

A concert was held at the South Bakaia Town Hall last evening in connection with the Oddfellows’ Lodge. Although the weather was anything but pleasant, there was a g„od attendance. The programme provided was a good one and well carried out ; euooras appeared to be the order of the eveuiug, and many of them were well deserved. Individual commendation would be out of place, as all con* tributed substantially to the evening’s amusement The following ladies and gentlemen assisted Mr O. Blackburn (piano solo), Misses R. Bruce, Sowman, and Young; Messrs Gill, Cole, Terry, David Thomas (vocalists) ; Mr Lanriston (recitation) ; and Mr Terry (bones). Mr Ferry’s contribution fairly brought dowu the house. The second part of the programme was filled by the Bakaia Christy Minstrels, and the troups were most sue-

cessful, the aouga in all cases being capitally rendered aod the choruses well sustained Mr Terry, as one of the corner men was a great success, and the- conundrums were of a better character than are generally heard at these entertainments. The programme conclude! with a laughable farce. Mr Broadbeot, who presided,* thanked those present for their attendance, and expressed a hope to see the audience present at a similar entertainment, to be given during the month of September, when another programme will be presented. The room having been cleared, dancing was kept up till an early hour this morning.
