Two men named Rice and Okeepe, who were recently arrested by the Tasmanian police for complicity in the Beaconsfield Bank robbery, were brought up before the Hobart Magistrate yesterday for examination. After hearing the evidence of the convict Ward, who is now undergoing sentence for the same robbery, and who has turned Queen’s evidence against Rice and Okeepe, the Bench committed the prisoners for trial. “Grave” Fears. Melbourne, To-day. The ship North America, which left Melbourne for London on February 19, is missing, and grave fears are entertained for her safety. Cable Tariff. The colonies of New Zealand and New South Walas and Victoria have agreed to a reduction of the tariff for cable messages passing over their lines by one half, but they consider that in that case they are entitled to a substantial concession at the hands of the cable company. Communications are being exchanged on the subject, and a favorable issue to the negotiations is looked for.
