Sporting Ashburton county hunt CLUB. ANNUAL STEEPLECHASES. To be held on the RACECOURSE, ASHBURTON, ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 7. 1885. President—E. G Wright. Vice-Presidents —W, G. Ross and 0. G. Friedlander. _ Clerk of the Course—G. Scott. Handicappers — W. G. Ross, S. Saunders and M. Stitt. The first race to start at 12.30 p.m. 1. Handicap Hurdle Race, of 15 sovs ; over eight flights of hurdles about 3ft 6in high ; nomination 10s, acceptance 15s. For district horses that have been regularly huntec with the Ashburton hounds. 2 miles. 2. Hunt Club Steeplechase Ccp (handicap, minimum weight list), a trophy of the value of 40 sovs ; nomination 1 sov, acceptance 2 sovs ; open to all qualified hunters ; amateur riders j only. 3 miles. I 3. Maiden Steeplechase Plate, of 15 sovs ; weight for age ; _ nomination 10s, acceptance 15s; for district horses that have been regularly hunted with the Ashburton hounds. 2 miles. 4. Hunters Flat Race Handicap, of 15 sovs ; minimum weight list; nomination 10a, acceptance 15s ; open to all qualified hunters. Horses starting for this race must qualify over a hurdle to the satisfaction of the Stewards. 2 miles. 6. Consolation Handicap, of 10 sovs ; nomination 10s, acceptance free. 1$ miles.

RULES AND REGULATIONS. I 1, No entry will be received except on the condition that all disputes, claims, i and objections arising out of the racing ■hall be decided by the Stewards, or whom they may appoint; their decision on all points connected with carrying out this programme to he final, 2. Grand National Steeplechase Rules adhered to when applicable. 3. A district horse shall mean any horse that has been commonly resident in the Ashburton County from May 7,1886, and up to the date of the forthcoming meeting and owned by a person who has resided in the said County during the same period. —A qualified hunter shall mean any horse that has been fairly bunted, at least three times, with any recognised pack of hounds during the season 1885. 4. Five per cent, will he deducted from the gross of all moneys payable in accordance with this programme for expenses of the course. 6. All nominations and acceptances go to the funds of the Club. 6. Professional riders will be required to carry 71b extra 4 in all races to which they are admitted. ?. Nominations, accompanied by fees, name, age, description of horse and colors of rider, and a master of hounds certificate as to qualification must be in the hands of the Secretary not later than 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 8.
