THE WEATHER.

The rain, which commenced on Sunday last, has continued with slight intermission since. The Aahbuiton, Hinds, Rangitata and Bakaia rivers are in high flood, but up to a late hour this afternoon no serious damage was reported. We learn from Christchurch that the rivers Waipara, Kowai and Ashley are in heavy fresh, but the Waimakariri is but slightly affected. Methven, To-day. [From Our Own Correspondent.] It has been raining very heavily here since yesterday morning. The township is flooded, and railway traffic is suspended. This morning’s train could not proceed further than Lyndhurst, owing to the flooded state of the line. No particular damage is reported. It is still raining, and there is no appearance of any change. Rakaia, To-day.

The Rakaia and Ashburton Forks railway line is flooded at Oaitnbrae, Lyndhurst and Lanriston. The morning train from Methven could get no further than Lyndhurst this morning, and had to return. The rain still continues here; it was very heavy last night. (Per Press Association.) . Blenheim, To-day.

A flood occurred at Blenheim last night, the Taylor river swollen by long oontlnnoc. '■ain having descended upon thetown. The water in the principal streets is font inches higher than the Opawa flood four weeks ago. No such visitation from the Taylor river has occurred for five or six yean. The weather is now fine, and the water is rapidly going down. Christchurch, To-day. Owing to heavy and the almost incessant rains during the past five days, serious floods are reported in the Northern district. The railway in several places has neen damaged, though not to a serious extent, and one approach to the Ashley bridge has been washed away. Timarit, Last Night. Heavy rain continues to tall here, bat so far no floods are reported. The rain will be heartily welcomed by farmers if it does not last too long. Dunedin, Last Night. The drizzling rain which commenced on Sunday has continued since then, and today a large quantity fell, It still continues, and it is feared floods will follow.
