ELECTION EXPENSES.
To the Editor.
Sir, —As there appears to be some misunderstanding as to what I said in reply to a question at Tinwald in reference to the money paid by me at my first election, I will repeat that the election coat me, in hard cash, between L7OO and LBOO ; that Mr Ivess, as Chairman of my Committee, was responsible for most of this expenditure ; the amount which passed through his hands, as Chairman or the Committee, was not less than LOU) 14s 01, of which a large amount was for printing and advertising ; but I never charged Mr Ivess with appropriating any part of this money to his personal use, and have always acknowledged his services on ray behalf. I never questioned the accounts sent Ito me, though I was somewhat taken aback at the largeness of the amount, lam, etc., Edward G, Weight.
