A QUERY.
To the Editor. Sir, — I see you are supporting Mr Wright for the Wakanui election Can you tell me why he tried to cut down the railway wages 1 1 am, etc.. Pick and Shoved. [Oar correspondent should have addressed his query direct to Mr Wright, We cannot undertake to discover the motives which impel the actions of any public man, but darings hurried search . through the pages of Mansard we ate unable to find any record of Mr Wright attempting or suggesting to reduce the pay of what wra popularly described as the “ wages men.” Our correspondent ehnotd, too, have been more explicit, if, - which from our acquaintance with him ire do not think probable, he refers to the pay of the highly-salaried officers, 'whose sinecures have been menaced by Mr Wright, we might suggest that the -candidate for Wakanui thinks, as we do, that the higher branches of - the semes are over paid and under*worked. But onr correspondent’s - letter, evidently, indicates the existences of some misunderstanding on this eubjeot, and we have published in another part of this issue extracts from Banaard, giving ail the records we can find of Mr Wright’s attempt “to cut down the railway wages.
