The Artillery Band intend going to the Wellington Exhibition to take part in the band contest, the local bands having failed to accept their challenge. ThomaaHill, a surveyor, was committed for larceny as a bailee of surveying instruments.
The Auckland University Council have appointed a Committee to draft a Mill for the purpose of vesting the University reserves in the Council. Judge Gillies promised to draft a Bill iu time for forwarding to the Government at beginning of the session.
Arthur’s Auction Mart was broken into on Friday night, L3OO worth of jewellery having been advertised as for sale yesterday, A panel was cot in the back door. The jewellery had been removed by the proprietor before closing last night.

The Government intend this session to introduce a Bill to enable fire and marine insurance companies that are now unlimited to become limited companies. Captain Bose, manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, met with a slight accident on Saturday by losing his grasp while ascending from the hold of the Toogariro. A fieri a N. W. gale sprang up yesterday evening, and has raged all day without intermission, being accompanied by heavy rain. Beyond a slight injury to some fences and the sinking of one or two small yachts no damage is reported. In consequence of the boisterous weather the departure of the B. M. S. Tongariro for Loudon has been delayed, but she will probably get away lata to-night or early to-morrow morning.

At a meeting of the city and suburban Mayors it was agreed that the erection of public abbatoirs is desirable; to be erected and managed by a public company under regulations jointly agreed on. Invercargill
McPhee’s sawmill at Longboah was destroyed by fire this morning about 7.30. No particulars are to hand. The occurrence is looked upon as suspicions. A large land owner will be brought before the Police Court to-morrow on a charge of attempted arson of a neighbor's stacks.
&n extraordinary dost storm occurred on S iturday night in town, and did much damage to the goods in shops.
