In the House of Commons to-day, the memorial presented by the recent Maori embassy was brought up for consideration. Daring the discussion which took place, the Hon. A. Evelyn Ashley, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Colonies, stated in the course of bis speech, that the memorial would receive due consideration, but Butt the Imperial Government were not entitled to interfere in the internal any colony to which the right of lelfgovernment had been granted.
Crimes Act

In the House of Commons last night, Mr Gladstone stated that England and Russia bad come to terms in regard to arbitration on the Afghan frontier question, and both countries were agreed as to who was to be ep* pointed arbitrators. | The Guards. In the House of Commons last night, the Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State, stated; in reply to a question, that he hoped the detention of the Guards at Alexandria would only be of brief duration. The Budget. During the course of the evening the Right Hon Mr Childers, Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced that con* siderable modifications had bftn made in the budget since be made his Financial Statement, owing to the fact that only nine millions of the credit had already been expended. Mr Childers stated that the increase on spirits would be only one shilling instead of two, as proposed, but that the shilling doty on wines of thirty degress proof would be adhered to.

The death is announced, at the age of So years, of Sir Jules Benedict, the eminent musical composer.

The Novosti Vrmya newspaper publishes a telegram to day stating that Abdurrahman Khan, Ameer of Afghanistan, has been murdered by his suite.
Disturbances. Cosstomtibopli, June 6.
News to band from the Island of Crete states that serious disturbances have recently taken place among the populace. [deceived Jane 8, XL3O p.m.]
Farther details are to baud with regard to the disturbances in Crete. They show that a number of Cretan deputies boarded a steamer which was bringing Savas Pasha, the new Governor, and attempted to prevent his landing, declaring that he had been appointed contrary to the wishes of the Cretan people. .
